Banyan Global is implementing the global Women’s Economic Empowerment and Equality Technical Assistance (WE3 TA) task order, awarded under the Advancing the Agenda of Gender Equality (ADVANTAGE) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. Under the direction of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Economic Growth, Education, and Environment, Office of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (E3/GenDev), Banyan Global provides advisory services to stakeholders to better analyze, design, implement, and monitor interventions addressing women’s economic empowerment and equality constraints and opportunities in support of USAID’s Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy. Banyan Global promotes WE3 in USAID programming by improving WE3-related USAID staff capacity, creating WE3 tools and resources, and enabling E3/GenDev to respond to Mission and operating unit requests for WE3 support. In addition, the WE3 TA addresses capacity gaps among USAID’s development partners, including other U.S. Government agencies, counterpart government agencies, private sector associations, and civil society organizations.
Under the WE3 TA, Banyan Global is producing a WE3 Guide for USAID staff. Banyan Global also conducted a WE3 analysis of the Municipal Waste Management and Recycling sector. In addition, Banyan Global led a training in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for USAID staff and implementing partners in Accra, Ghana in September 2019 to explore the links between women’s economic empowerment and the fisheries sector in support of USAID’s Forestry, Agriculture, and Biodiversity (E3/FAB) Learning Initiative on Women’s Empowerment, Access to Finance and Sustainable Fisheries. The goal of this training was to provide an expanded set of resources and tools to USAID staff and implementing partners on how to strengthen ongoing programming that promotes women’s economic empowerment in sustainable fisheries, specifically addressing time poverty and male engagement.
