Banyan Global is implementing the five-year, United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Malawi Learn to Perform Activity. The project supports USAID/Malawi in its performance management and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) in support of USAID’s overarching goal of a more self-reliant Malawi that is gender-equitable and democratically accountable.

Banyan Global and its partners, The Mitchell Group and Invest in Knowledge, provide technical and advisory services to design and carry out specialized monitoring, evaluation, collaborating, learning, and adapting (MECLA) tasks that support Program Cycle implementation, and will bolster the capacity of Mission staff and select partners to employ improved MECLA practices. Key initiatives and results include:

  • Collaborating with the Mission to revise its Performance Management Plan.
  • Supporting the Mission’s mid-course stocktaking to engage local stakeholders to identify strategic pivots for programming.
  • Providing high-quality facilitation and logistical support to Mission and IP learning, team building, and strategic planning events.
  • Designing and conducting evaluations and surveys to strengthen evidence and knowledge to inform programming.
  • Strengthening Mission and IP capacity related to data quality assessments, indicator target setting, GIS, and data management and use in the Development Information Solution, including through MEL clinics that cover a variety of demand-driven topics.
  • Supporting strategic communications through multimedia products, including short films showcasing USAID/Malawi’s contributions to Malawi’s development as the country commemorates 60 years of independence.

As part of USAID/Malawi and Banyan Global’s commitment to localization, Learn to Perform also provides technical assistance and logistical support to Malawi’s National Planning Commission to advance Malawi’s Vision 2063 for an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation. This includes support to the First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1), where Learn to Perform assisted with the development of the report as well as logistics surrounding the nationally broadcast dissemination meeting.

Ultimately, Learn to Perform supports USAID/Malawi to make data-driven decisions and strategically steer the Mission’s highly-integrated Country Development Cooperation Strategy toward greater development results. The task order was awarded under the Evaluation, Monitoring, and Learning Services (EVAL-ME II) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract.
