USAID/Malawi Learn to Perform Provides Support to National Planning Commission Release of 2023/2024 MIP-1 Annual Progress Report
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Malawi Learn to Perform Activity supports Malawi’s National Planning Commission (NPC), the entity tasked with coordinating the country’s development efforts and progress towards its Malawi 2063 vision.
On July 10, 2024, Learn to Perform supported the NPC in presenting the 2023/2024 Annual Progress Report for Malawi’s 2063 First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1). This comprehensive report outlines the progress made towards achieving the goals of the Malawi 2063 national development agenda, while also addressing the challenges encountered during the first three years of implementation. Learn to Perform provided essential support and technical assistance during the development of the report, as well as providing logistics for the dissemination meeting including accommodation and transport for a commissioner, as well as media staff from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, Times TV, and radio, who covered the event live. Additionally, L2P covered the costs for venue rental, ensuring the successful execution of the presentation. During the event, the Learn to Perform team provided continued technical and note-taking support to the NPC.
The report highlights key achievements across various sectors, showcasing progress in implementing strategic initiatives aimed at transforming Malawi into an inclusive, wealthy, and self-reliant industrialized upper-middle-income country by 2063. It also addresses the challenges encountered, providing valuable insights into lessons learned and outlining strategies for overcoming these hurdles in the years ahead.
Professor Richard Mkandawire, the NPC chairperson emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving the national vision, stating, “It is a collective responsibility to realize a Malawi that is wealthy and self-reliant. It takes a mother from Misuku Hills, a young trader on the Karonga border, a fisherman on the shore of Mangochi, as well as a tea grower up Mulanje Mountain to get there.”
Adding to this sentiment, NPC Director General Dr. Thomas Munthali remarked, “Today is a reminder that we have another chance to improve on what we are not doing well, and we need to acknowledge that coordinated efforts are essential to progress.”
As stakeholders and citizens alike digest the report’s findings, the NPC has reaffirmed its commitment to driving the nation’s development agenda forward. Learn to Perform‘s support to NPC and the MIP-1 is helping Malawi meet the Malawi 2063 goals to raise the country’s income status and meet the SDGs. Learn to Perform will continue to support NPC in these endeavors to work toward the vision for an improved and more developed Malawi.
