USAID/Malawi Learn to Perform Provides Support to Malawi’s National Planning Commission in the Malawi 2063 First 10-Year Implementation Plan
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Malawi Learn to Perform Activity supports Malawi’s National Planning Commission (NPC), the entity tasked with coordinating the country’s development efforts and progress towards its Malawi 2063 vision. In January and February 2024, Learn to Perform provided technical and logistical support to the NPC’s annual progress report for Malawi 2063’s First 10-Year Implementation Plan (MIP-1).
MIP-1 aims to meet two key milestones:
- To raise the country’s income status to lower-middle level by 2030.
- To meet most of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that have end-line targets by 2030.
From January 23-25, 2024, Learn to Perform staff participated in the initial MIP-1 data collection sessions in Lilongwe. Then, from January 29 to February 3, 2024, Learn to Perform coordinated and provided workshop logistics for MIP-1 progress report writing sessions held in Salima.
During these sessions, Learn to Perform staff helped NPC write high-level summaries relating to each of the Malawi 2063 pillars: 1) agricultural productivity and commercialization, 2) industrialization, and 3) urbanization. Cross-cutting themes included mindset change, governance, public sector performance, private sector dynamism, human capital, economic infrastructure, and environmental stability.
Following the writing sessions, Learn to Perform provided continued support to the NPC, including additional reviews of specific summaries and sections of the reports, follow-up meetings at the Learn to Perform Learning Center, and a review of the data source frameworks that were updated by Malawi Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. The final reports will be submitted to NPC in May 2024.
Learn to Perform ‘s support to NPC and the MIP-1 is helping Malawi to meet the Malawi 2063 goals to raise the country’s income status and to meet the SDGs. Learn to Perform will continue to support NPC in these endeavors to work toward the vision for an improved and more developed Malawi.
