Training on WE3 in the Fisheries Sector
Banyan Global implemented the global Women’s Economic Empowerment and Equality Technical Assistance (WE3 TA) task order, awarded through the Advancing the Agenda of Gender Equality (ADVANTAGE) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract. Under the direction of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Economic Growth, Education, and Environment, Office of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (E3/GenDev), Banyan Global provided advisory services to stakeholders to better analyze, design, implement, and monitor interventions addressing women’s economic empowerment and equality constraints and opportunities in support of USAID’s Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy.
Under WE3 TA, Banyan Global led a training in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for USAID staff and implementing partners in Accra, Ghana in September 2019 to explore the links between women’s economic empowerment and the fisheries sector in support of USAID’s Forestry, Agriculture, and Biodiversity (E3/FAB) Learning Initiative on Women’s Empowerment, Access to Finance and Sustainable Fisheries. The goal of this training was to provide an expanded set of resources and tools to USAID staff and implementing partners on how to strengthen ongoing programming that promotes women’s economic empowerment in sustainable fisheries, specifically addressing time poverty and male engagement.
