Our Partner ICRW is Hiring! Consultancy: Gender-Based Violence Field Researcher
Overview:
ICRW is seeking experienced research consultants to conduct qualitative data collection in Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and West Bank/Gaza. ICRW is seeking five individual consultants – one from each country of interest. The primary research study, designed by ICRW in partnership with Banyan Global, and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to produce regional and country-specific estimates of the socio-economic costs of gender-based violence (domestic violence, early and forced marriage, and public sexual harassment) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The national researchers are expected to carry out qualitative data collection consisting of key informant interviews (KIIs) and/or focus group discussions (FGDs) with survivors of gender-based violence.
Responsibilities:
- Complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) prior to participation in any research activities (*ICRW will provide access after hiring);
- Review original versions and translations of interview guides and informed consent forms;
- In consultation with ICRW, develop sampling and recruitment plan based on mapping of service provision sites;
- Participate in webinar trainings held by ICRW prior to fieldwork and regular check-in meetings (via web) throughout the course of the fieldwork;
- Conduct up to 30 KIIs and/or FGDs with survivors of violence and possibly service providers;
- Once fieldwork has been completed, deliver full data set of completed interviews in English;
- Write a brief country report (3-4 pages) in English describing the basic characteristics of the sample/data collected, and summarizing the main findings;
- Provide input into the analyses of findings from the fieldwork and the draft country briefs.
ICRW anticipates that the training and fieldwork will take place over the course of 2 weeks in December 2016. The locations of the qualitative data collection will be decided jointly by ICRW, the selected consultant, and Banyan Global. Fieldwork will be conducted in the capital city in each country as well as potentially in other locations. Once sites are selected, the national consultant will be responsible for setting up KIIs with relevant stakeholders and FGDs with survivors of violence.
Requirements:
- Fluent in English and Arabic (and French, where applicable)
- Has prior experience conducting primary qualitative research on gender-based violence (particularly domestic violence, early and forced marriage, and public sexual harassment)
- Strong writing skills in English
- Familiarity with service providers and institutions serving survivors of violence in the country of interest
- Master’s Degree in sociology, anthropology, social work, social and behavioral sciences, public health or related field
