The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) named Armando Plata, a volunteer with the Empleando Futuros project, as a 2018 Community Hero. As an advocate for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) community, Armando helps Empleando Futuros engage the private sector to hire youth who identify as LGBTQI.
