Banyan Global implemented the Gender Integration Technical Assistance (GITA) task order under the Advancing the Agenda of Gender Equality (ADVANTAGE) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. GITA provided on-demand, rapid response short-term technical assistance (STTA) to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Missions and Bureaus across sectors.

Under GITA, Banyan Global developed a report, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: A Short History of USAID Policy and Programming, that addressed: “How did gender equality and women’s empowerment programming evolve at USAID?” and, “What were its drivers, milestones, and signature accomplishments?”

Using Banyan Global’s tested research tools, the two-person research team engaged in document review and key informant interviews with USAID staff to inform the report.
